Nitroprusside falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: Danshen may lower blood pressure on its own. In animal studies it relaxed blood vessels and produced a drop in blood pressure, and that effect got stronger when paired with a blood pressure medicine. Nitroprusside (Nitropress) is already a very powerful, fast-acting drug that opens up blood vessels and is given in the hospital with constant monitoring. Stacking Danshen on top could, in theory, push blood pressure too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or weak, with a faster heartbeat. The good news is this concern comes only from lab and animal research, not human studies, so it's a theoretical caution. Still, since Nitroprusside is used in critical settings, mention any Danshen use to your care team so they can keep an eye on your numbers.
