ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Enalapril Maleate, Hydrochlorothiazide
Enalapril Maleate, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your Vaseretic combines two blood pressure lowering medicines: enalapril (an ACE inhibitor) and hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill). Danshen, on its own, may also gently lower blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. So the concern here is simple addition. Put the two together and your blood pressure could drop a little lower than you intend.
If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or even faint, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest, though: this caution comes mainly from animal and lab studies, not solid human trials, so it's a theoretical worry rather than a proven danger. Still, since blood pressure is something you can actually measure, I'd check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

- Heart and circulation support
- Angina (chest pain)
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety and stress
- Liver health
Danshen is a root used in traditional Chinese medicine, mainly for heart and circulation problems. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you take other medicines or have a health condition.
About Enalapril and Hydrochlorothiazide
What Is Enalapril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?
Brand name: Vaseretic
Enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold under brand names including Vaseretic and Enalapril maleate and hydrochlorothiazide — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). This combination is not meant as the first treatment tried; it's generally used when a single blood pressure medicine hasn't done the job on its own.
Because this is a fixed-dose combination, your doctor will typically adjust each medicine separately first, then switch you to the combination tablet once the right doses are found.
