Trandolapril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, taking danshen with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the gist: Danshen, on its own, seems able to lower blood pressure a bit. So when you pair it with trandolapril (Mavik), which is already working to relax your blood vessels and bring your numbers down, the two can add up. The worry is that your pressure could drop more than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when you stand up quickly, and you may feel unusually tired or even faint. I'll be straight with you though: this concern comes mostly from animal and lab studies, not solid human trials, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your trandolapril on your own.

What Is Trandolapril Used For?

Brand name: Mavik

Trandolapril tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used on their own or combined with other blood pressure medicines such as hydrochlorothiazide.

Trandolapril tablets are also used in stable patients who have reduced heart pumping function (left-ventricular systolic dysfunction) or heart failure that developed within the first few days after a heart attack. In Caucasian patients, trandolapril has been shown to lower the risk of cardiovascular death and reduce hospitalizations related to heart failure.
